In the book of Ecclesiastes in the Bible, the wise King Solomon wrote these truths inspired by the Lord. "To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck what is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; a time to gain, and a time to lose; a time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; a time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace....He has made everything beautiful in its time".
Here is how He has made selling our house beautiful in His time. We put the house on the market at the end of April. Since then, we have had many people look at it and like it, but only one offer that was much lower than we were able to accept. Some people made comments that we should drop the price after 2 weeks, but in our hearts, we told the Lord by faith, we would wait until we felt HIM telling us to drop the price. During this time, so many events were going on in our lives that would have made it quite difficult to balance with selling the house and everything we owned. We also knew that IF we sold the house earlier, we would have to live with family for many months which would be a burden after awhile. But even knowing that, it was difficult at times because other people we knew were selling their houses within 1-2 weeks of being out in the market. Being human, we immediately responded with "Lord why not us? Why aren't you selling the house like those other people?" And then His Spirit spoke in a small voice reminding us about the truth Jesus taught Peter on the mountain. Basically, Peter questioned why John was going to be doing something he wasn't. Jesus reminded him to not be about his brother's business, but to focus on his own. So in application to our lives: "JP and Alicia don't be about other people's business in comparison to your own. They have different needs and plans. The plan I have for you is different, so trust me!"
We have held on tightly to this truth. We felt confident that we should not drop the price until July 1. We also prayed that the Lord would sell it after our India trip so that we would be home to do all the details. We wanted to be focused on His work in India. We arrived home June 29 at 1 in the afternoon. By 8pm June 30, we had 2 offers. One of the offers was exactly what we needed at the price we were asking for. As of July 1, the contracts were signed. We close on the house July 31, which give us a whole month to sell everything and pack the last few items we are going to take over to India with us. We will go and visit family in South Carolina the first week of August. That will leave a few weeks of staying with family before we depart the first week of September.
The Lord is great and is greatly to be praised! He truly loves us, every person on this earth. I wonder sometimes, what other areas in my life do I try to do myself and not rely on the Lord to take care of me in this perfect way? What blessings am I missing out on because I don't follow Him with a whole heart? Who else could love me like this? Despite my doubts, frustrations, and unfaithfulness, HE is always faithful to love me and provide for me. Our house is under contract and HE is the one to be praised. I love you Jesus!
