The Great Escape

Yesterday, we had our first big test in parenthood. I had the bright idea to take all three dogs with me to pick up Josh-Pruitt from work (oh the joys of having one car). We made it safely to and from our destination. But our skills were put to the test as we headed towards the house. Sookie and Lilly were in my arms and Josh-Pruitt had Buster plus the laptop backpack. I placed the girls down on the grass knowing they would head right for the door just like they always do. Right? WRONG! They quickly headed the opposite direction, across the street, and took a potty break at the light post. We yelled out to them to come, but disobedience was flashing in their eyes. JP put Buster, "the obedient one", down next to me. As soon as his paws touched the ground, he took out in dead heat towards the girls which inspired them to continue to run. If neighbors had been watching, they would have witnessed three dogs running freely down the sidewalk with 2 adult humans chasing after them! With ears flapping in the wind, tongues out, and paws gracefully running as fast as possible, you could almost hear music playing in the air. Their adventure ended with Lilly and Buster running into a neighbors open garage and up to their door and Sookie taking another potty break in the yard. As we walked back to the house, trying to hide our laughter, they all three got spanked for their naughty behavior. But just looking at them, you could tell they were smiling proud. If dogs could talk...."Hey guys, that was totally awesome! Who cares that we got spanked. It was totally worth it! The Great Escape almost worked!"
